Frequently Asked Questions

Last updated: 17 August 2026

1. What does “made to order” mean?

Every product is manufactured specifically for you at the Cool Bear factory in Taiwan. When you place an order, you choose the exact specification for your vehicle — coilover type, top-mount, caliper colour, pad compound, wheel size and finish. Production begins after your payment is confirmed, so each item is built to your requirements.

2. How long will my order take?

Production at the factory typically takes 10–15 working days from payment confirmation, with international shipping on top of that. The lead-time estimate shown on each product page is the figure to trust for that product. You will receive tracking information once your order is despatched.

3. Do you ship to my area?

We ship to the UK mainland as standard. Scottish Highlands, Islands, and Northern Ireland are available with a small surcharge where applicable. EU and international shipping is available on request — please contact us for a quote before ordering.

4. Is VAT included in the prices shown?

Yes. All prices on the site are shown including UK VAT at 20% by default. You can toggle between VAT-inclusive and VAT-exclusive display using the price toggle. A VAT invoice is provided with every order.

5. How do warranty claims work?

Warranty cover depends on the product: XYZ brake calipers (standard Hollow, dust-cover equipped) carry a 5-year limited warranty, with the track-focused Hollow Racing caliper at 2 years. XYZ coilovers carry a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty against manufacturing defects. If you experience an issue, email us with your order number, photos, and a description of the problem. We handle all warranty claims on your behalf — you never need to contact Taiwan directly. Full details are on our Warranty page.

6. Can I return an item if I change my mind?

Because all products are made to your specification, they are exempt from the standard 14-day cancellation right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. However, your Consumer Rights Act 2015 protections for faulty goods are fully preserved — if your product is faulty, not as described, or not fit for purpose, you are entitled to a refund, repair, or replacement. See our Returns Policy for full details.

7. What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Klarna. All payments are processed securely at checkout. Full payment is required at the time of order.

8. Which brands are you authorised to sell?

Cool Bear UK is the Authorised Dealer in the United Kingdom for XYZ Racing (coilover suspension), K-Sport (brake systems), D2 Racing Sport (suspension and brakes), and Air Force Suspension (air ride systems). All products are manufactured by Cool Bear Co. Ltd in Taiwan.

9. Who do I contact about fitment questions?

Use the vehicle picker at the top of any page — choose your make, model, year and chassis and you will only see parts built for that exact car. Still unsure (for example, two chassis variants both look right)? Email us at [email protected] with your vehicle make, model, year and registration, and we will confirm the correct kit before you order.

10. Are you the same as XYZ Racing UK / xyz-racing.co.uk?

Yes. Cool Bear UK and XYZ Racing UK are both operated by Input IT Ltd. Cool Bear UK is our multi-brand storefront covering all Cool Bear group brands. XYZ Racing UK (xyz-racing.co.uk) will become a dedicated XYZ Racing-only storefront in the future, but for now all products — including XYZ Racing — are available here at cool-bear.co.uk.

Brake kit questions

Does an XYZ brake kit have a warranty?

Yes. The standard Hollow caliper (dust-cover equipped) carries a 5-year limited warranty; the track-focused Hollow Racing caliper carries a 2-year warranty. We handle all warranty claims on your behalf.

Will a rear kit work with my parking brake (including electronic / EPB)?

Yes — rear kits are built per car with the correct parking-brake arrangement: retained OE cable handbrake, hydraulic handbrake, or electronic parking brake (EPB), depending on what your vehicle uses. Choosing your exact vehicle resolves this automatically.

Will an XYZ big brake kit fit my standard wheels?

It depends on the wheel. As a rule of thumb, a 330 mm rotor needs a minimum 17″ wheel and a 356 mm rotor needs a minimum 18″ wheel — larger rotors need larger wheels again. See the wheel-clearance guide on the brake kits page, and check spoke clearance on aftermarket wheels before ordering.

How do I choose the correct rotor size?

Pick the size that suits your wheels, and keep front and rear the same rotor size if you are doing both axles. XYZ brake kits are engineered around a set front-to-rear pad ratio, so mixing a larger front rotor with a smaller rear (for example 356 mm front / 330 mm rear) upsets the braking balance. On 18″ wheels, that means 356 mm front and rear.

Do I need to modify my car to fit a big brake kit?

No — XYZ big brake kits are designed as direct bolt-on upgrades for your exact vehicle. In rare cases (unusual wheel designs, some OE splash guards) minor adjustment may be needed, but no permanent modification is required for the vast majority of installs.

What is the difference between Street, Sport and Racing pads?

The compound. Street pads (included) are quiet and effective from cold — right for daily driving. Sport pads use a higher-friction compound with a wider temperature window for fast road use and track days. Racing pads give maximum bite at race temperatures but need heat in them to work well, so they are not recommended for a road-driven car.

Can I use other brands of brake pads later?

Yes. When your pads wear out you can fit compatible pads from well-known brands such as AP, Ferodo, EBC or Hawk, as well as genuine XYZ replacements.

Are the calipers cast or forged? Do they work with ABS?

Every XYZ caliper is forged from high-grade aluminium and then CNC-machined for precision. The kits are fully compatible with ABS.

Will a 6-pot caliper clear my wheels?

The XYZ 6-pot caliper matches the mounting specification of a typical 4-pot competitor caliper but with a slimmer body, so it sits further from the wheel face than you might expect. Wheel diameter is still the deciding factor — see the rotor-size guidance above.

When should brake rotors be replaced?

Inspect them regularly. Replace a rotor immediately if you find cracks, deformation or warping, or once it has worn 1.0 mm below its marked minimum thickness.

Coilover questions

Do XYZ coilovers have a warranty?

Yes — a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, and a defective strut is replaced with a new one rather than being sent away for a rebuild. We handle all claims on your behalf — see our Warranty page.

How much can I lower my car on XYZ coilovers?

For most applications the ride height can be dropped by up to around 120 mm from standard, and the highest setting matches the original ride height.

Are XYZ dampers monotube or twin-tube?

Monotube. The monotube design eliminates cavitation and lag, dissipates heat better, and allows a larger internal working area — giving more consistent damping across changing road conditions.

What is an inverted (upside-down) strut?

An inverted strut flips the standard layout: the shock body sits at the top near the mount, and the cylinder sits at the bottom. It is designed for McPherson-strut applications, reduces unsprung weight, and the thicker outer cylinder gives greater rigidity — better stability, durability, and response to hard impacts.

Do all kits come with pillow-ball top mounts and camber adjustment?

Most applications come with a pillow-ball or rubber top mount, and most McPherson-strut kits include camber adjustability — but both depend on the specific car. Your product page lists the top-mount type for your vehicle.

What is the difference between Tarmac Rally and Track (circuit) coilovers?

They look identical, but the setup differs. Track kits run shorter springs (roughly 160–180 mm) with stiffer compression damping, because a circuit is smooth and speeds are high. Tarmac Rally kits run longer springs (roughly 180–205 mm) with softer compression but stiffer rebound, because closed-road stages have bumps, crests and potholes that would unsettle a circuit setup.

What is the difference between Tarmac Rally and Gravel Rally coilovers?

Suspension travel. Tarmac Rally kits run roughly 90–120 mm of travel; Gravel Rally kits run roughly 130–160 mm (both depending on application), with damping tuned for loose surfaces.

Should the left and right dampers be set the same?

Yes — left and right damping should always match, otherwise handling becomes unstable and tyres wear unevenly. Front and rear can (and often should) be set differently depending on your setup goals.

Should I adjust ride height with the spring seat or the lower mount?

Use the adjustable lower mount: thread it upwards to lower the car, downwards to raise it. We do not recommend using the spring seat to change ride height, because that alters spring preload rather than the damper position.

How much thread must stay engaged when adjusting the lower mount?

Keep at least 45 mm of thread engaged on McPherson-type struts and 30 mm on double-wishbone types.

How should the brake lines be attached to the coilovers?

Fix any ABS or brake lines into the rubber grommets supplied in the tool bag first, then attach the grommets to the supplied brake-line brackets, and the brackets to the coilover. The exact bracket position is chosen by the installer to suit the car.
