XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Nissan PULSAR N14 1990-1995

Few production cars of the early 1990s came factory-prepped for Group A rally homologation, but Nissan’s Pulsar GTI-R – with its turbocharged SR20DET and ATTESA four-wheel drive – was built from the outset with competition in mind. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover for the N14 extends that brief directly into the suspension, rebuilding the damper architecture around the demands of loose-surface stages rather than suburban roads.

Gravel rally places demands on a damper that tarmac events never approach. The violence of high-speed crests on forest tracks, the sudden grip changes between silt and sandstone, the G-loading through compressed gravel hairpins – standard suspension geometry was never designed to absorb any of it cleanly. This kit was.

What this coilover does for your 1990-1995 Nissan PULSAR N14

The inverted-tube design reduces the unsprung weight at each corner compared to a conventional strut, which helps the N14’s suspension respond to surface changes rather than deflecting off them. Combined with the longer-travel coil springs that characterise this range, the chassis can absorb the severe vertical loads of a high-speed gravel crest without compression bottoming out and unloading the front axle. Sandstone, snow, and silt each demand a different response from the suspension – the spring rates in this kit have been developed and tested by a rally racing team working across all three surface types, so the calibration reflects what those surfaces actually do to the car. Under extreme lateral G-force in gravel hairpins, the inverted tube’s consistency through its stroke keeps the N14 balanced and readable through the full arc of the corner.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

Rally cross is widely considered the most demanding road-surface discipline in motorsport, and XYZ designed the Gravel Rally around exactly that brief. The inverted-tube architecture – where the larger-diameter body sits at the top of the strut rather than the bottom – resists the lateral flex that conventional dampers develop under sustained competition loading, and positions the working oil further from the heat sources at road level. Long springs matched to the extended stroke give the car the travel it needs to absorb chassis vibration and the aggressive vertical inputs that high-speed, heavily rutted stages deliver. Spring rate settings across the Gravel Rally range have been tested by a dedicated rally racing team on gravel, silt, and snow surfaces, so the calibration carries the authority of real-event conditions.

Fitment for the Nissan PULSAR N14 (1990-1995)

This kit is specified for the Nissan Pulsar N14 chassis, covering the 1990 to 1995 production run. The GTI-R is the primary competition use-case given the Gravel Rally coilover’s design intent – verify your specific variant against the chassis code before ordering to confirm exact fitment.

Built for competition rather than commuting, this is a coilover with a narrow and specific purpose – configure yours below.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
