XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Subaru LIBERTY 1998-2003

The BE and BH Liberty carries Subaru’s gravel pedigree directly in its layout – this is the lineage that put Subaru on the rally map before the Impreza took the spotlight, and its symmetrical all-wheel-drive chassis still wants a damper that can keep all four corners loaded on a loose surface. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover is built for exactly that: gravel-stage rally use where the road surface is never the same twice.

This is not a fast-road kit pressed into rough-road duty. The Gravel Rally specification runs long stroke and long springs so the third-generation Liberty can soak up high-speed corrugations, jumps and ruts without running out of travel, then stay composed when you load it up mid-corner.

What this coilover does for your 1998-2003 Subaru Liberty

Fitted to your 1998-2003 Subaru Liberty, the immediate change is usable travel. The long-stroke design keeps the wheels tracking the surface over sandstone, snow or silt rather than skipping and unloading, which is where grip and confidence come from on a stage. The inverted-tube construction puts the larger, stronger tube at the top where bending loads concentrate, so the damper resists the side-loads a gravel car generates under hard direction changes. Spring rates are matched to the repeated, high-G cornering that loose surfaces demand, so the nose stays planted and the AWD system can actually put the power down. On the Liberty’s longer wheelbase, the result is a car that rides the rough stuff flatter and feels far more predictable on landing.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally coilover is engineered specifically for rally and rallycross, the most aggressive surface conditions in motorsport. XYZ Racing uses an inverted-tube layout to cope with the variety of surfaces a stage throws at a car – hard-packed sandstone, snow, loose silt – each demanding different damping behaviour. The long stroke and tall spring are the defining features: they exist to absorb sustained chassis vibration, let the car attack high-speed bouncy sections at full commitment, and carry the extreme cornering loads that build when an all-wheel-drive car is driven on the edge of available grip. Every spring rate in the range has been validated by XYZ Racing’s rally team rather than chosen on paper, which is what separates a genuine gravel damper from a lowered road kit. It is a competition tool first, and it reads that way in the metalwork.

Fitment for the Subaru Liberty (1998-2003)

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
