Caliper render for this kit:

The Mk4 Golf 4Motion carries its weight exactly where a brake system feels it most: over the nose, with a transverse VR6 sitting ahead of the front-axle line and the Haldex hardware adding mass to a car that already runs front-biased. On a 4WD Golf 4 the front axle does the lion’s share of the stopping, and the standard two-piece OE caliper runs out of thermal headroom long before the chassis runs out of grip.
The XYZ Racing front big brake kit attacks that directly. It swaps the OE front setup for a larger disc and a stiffer caliper, and it is offered with three pad compounds, Street, Sport and Racing, so the same Volkswagen GOLF 4 4WD hardware can be specced for a daily commute or a full track day.
What this front big brake kit does for your 1998-2003 Volkswagen GOLF 4 4WD
The first thing you notice is that the pedal stops going long. Heavy 4Motion Golfs cook their front brakes on repeated stops, and the bigger two-piece floating disc here simply has more mass and surface area to soak up and shed that heat. Firmer initial bite makes the car easier to place on turn-in, which matters on a platform that wants to understeer once the nose loads up. Choosing the Racing compound holds friction at temperatures where a road pad would already be greasy, the Sport compound adds bite for fast-road work, while the Street pad keeps quiet, low-dust cold-bite manners for daily use. The floating disc helps the front axle recover between applications rather than soaking up heat across a session.
About the Hollow front brake kit
This is a front-axle big brake kit built for the heavier, faster Mk4 derivatives rather than a universal one-size part. It pairs a larger two-piece floating disc with a fixed caliper; the caliper is a hollow body as standard, with an optional Hollow Racing version rated to 1000C, a two-year warranty and no dust cover for serious circuit work. The pad compound is the lever you pull to match the kit to use: Street for stock-feel road driving with low dust, Sport for fast-road and occasional track, Racing for sustained circuit abuse. Discs come drilled or slotted at the same price, and the caliper can be finished in an included painted colour or a premium polished or candy option, with a two-tone anodized or titanium centre bell selectable at checkout. Because the front does most of the work on a nose-heavy 4WD Golf, upgrading the front alone shifts the limiting factor away from fade.
Fitment for the Volkswagen GOLF 4 4WD (1998-2003)
This kit fits the 4WD (4Motion) Volkswagen Golf 4 built 1998 to 2003, supplied as a pair of front corners, and only the models that left the factory with the two-piece OE front caliper, the higher-spec derivatives this kit is sized around. It is a front-position kit. Confirm your car runs the two-piece OE caliper before ordering, as the lower-spec single-piece variant is a different fitment.

Choosing your spec
Every kit is built to order around the choices you make above. Here is what each option actually changes, so you can spec yours with confidence.
Brake pads — Street, Sport or Racing
Every kit ships with a full set of high-performance pads; the compound is your call.
Street is the right default for fast-road driving — a strong, progressive cold bite with low noise, low dust and long disc life. Sport raises the working temperature and adds bite and fade resistance for hard road use and the occasional track day, while still behaving on a cold morning. Racing is a track compound built for sustained abuse: huge fade resistance and bite once heat is in it, at the cost of more noise and dust when cold. Match the pad to how hard you actually use the brakes — there is no benefit to a race pad that never gets up to temperature.
Caliper grade — Hollow vs Hollow Racing
Hollow is the standard caliper on every kit: a hollow-body forged caliper, lighter than a solid one, fitted with a dust cover and backed by a 5-year oil-leak warranty. For most fast-road and spirited track use it is all the caliper you need.
Hollow Racing is the track-grade upgrade. It runs the same hollow body but without a dust cover (so there is nothing to melt at sustained high temperature), uses a twin-metal piston that isolates heat travelling from the disc to the oil seal, and is rated to 1000°C. Available 286–380mm (front). Warranty is 2 years on oil leaks and 10 years on appearance. Built for professional racing and repeated track days.

Caliper colour & finish
Painted colours (Red, Yellow, Gold, Black, Anodized Black) are included at no cost. Want an exact match to your car? Custom Color (+£150) paints the calipers to any Pantone code you supply (15–20 day lead time).
Polished Forged finishes are the flagship: a forged caliper given a mirror-polished surface treatment that shifts colour with the viewing angle. Beyond the looks, the polished surface dissipates heat better, resists rust and stands up to the weather. Choose Titanium (neochrome, +£350), Polished Gold (+£300) or Polished Silver (+£250). They look their best paired with a titanium centre bell. Care: clean only with a dilute neutral cleaner or water.
Candy colours (+£200) use a deep candy-paint and polishing process for a mirror-reflection, boutique finish — pick Teal, Blue, Red or Orange (shown below right).

Centre bells
The centre bell is the CNC-machined aluminium hat that joins the disc to the hub. The standard anodized centre bell is included. The Two-tone bell (+£200) adds an anodized accent ring — choose Red, Yellow, Orange, Purple or Silver right here at checkout. The Titanium centre bell (+£500) is a forged titanium bell (bolts not included) that finishes off the polished-forged look.
