XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — BMW 5 SERIES E34 8 CYL φ55 welding 1987-1995

The E34’s V8 cars carry real weight over the front axle, and that mass does not sit still when a sealed tarmac stage throws a compression, a broken edge, or a kerb strike at the nose without warning. XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally coilover replaces the factory strut internals with a construction built specifically for that punishment, running through a φ55 welded strut body rather than a bolt-on cartridge.

This is not a fast-road spring-and-shock swap. It is a stage-focused kit for an E34 8-cylinder that spends its life on broken, cambered, or patched tarmac rather than a smooth circuit, where the suspension has to soak up a hit and be composed again half a second later for the next one.

What this coilover does for your 1987-1995 Bmw 5 Series E34 8 CYL Φ55 Welding

Fitted to the 8-cylinder E34, the kit is built to absorb the jolt of a big compression or a broken road surface without kicking the nose off line, which matters on a chassis already carrying extra weight over the front wheels. The damper is tuned to suppress body movement through repeated hits rather than just the first one, so the car settles instead of pattering into the next section still unloaded. Keeping the tyre in contact with an uneven surface is the point of the whole kit – traction on broken tarmac comes from the wheel staying planted, not from outright grip alone, and that is what the valving here is aimed at. The result on the road or stage is a V8 E34 that stays stable and predictable when the surface stops being smooth, rather than one that starts to float or wander over successive bumps.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Tarmac Rally line for exactly the environment its name describes – sealed-stage events run on public roads that are rarely as flat as a track surface. The φ55 strut body is a welded construction rather than a bolt-in cartridge, which is the route XYZ uses on older chassis like the E34 where no factory strut insert format exists to adapt around. Internally the damper is set up to deal with a big hit – a pothole, a jump landing, a broken repair patch – without the body kicking back through to the chassis, then to recover and keep working on the next imperfection a moment later. That valving isn’t generic; XYZ carries its own history of running Tarmac Rally-spec cars on closed stages, and the damping settings in this kit come directly out of that competition experience rather than a fast-road baseline turned down. The intent throughout is stability under load and consistent tyre contact on a surface that never stays flat for long, which is a different design brief to a track-day coilover built around one repeatable line.

Fitment for the Bmw 5 Series E34 8 CYL Φ55 Welding (1987-1995)

This kit is built for the BMW 5 Series E34, chassis code BM13, 8-cylinder cars produced across the 1987 to 1995 model years. It uses the φ55 welded strut configuration, so installation involves welding the strut body into the existing suspension mount rather than a direct bolt-in swap – plan the fitting accordingly before ordering.
