XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — BMW 6 SERIES E64 6 CYL 2004-2010

The E64 carries real weight over its nose – a factory straight-six, a long bonnet and, being the convertible half of the 6 Series line-up, a folding roof mechanism that adds mass exactly where you don’t want it under hard braking. Racing Spec coilovers are XYZ Racing’s answer to that: a damper built for the corner-entry and mid-corner control a car this size needs once you take it onto a circuit rather than just a fast B-road.

This isn’t a fast-road kit dressed up in a race name. It’s built for serious track and time-attack use on a chassis that was never meant to see a paddock, and the tuning reflects that brief throughout.

What this coilover does for your 2004-2010 BMW 6 Series E64 6 Cyl

Fitted to the BM45 platform, this coilover firms up front-end control enough to check the nose-dive that a big straight-six and a long wheelbase encourage under braking into a chicane. Ride height is adjustable independently of the damper, so you can lower the E64’s factory-high stance and drop its centre of gravity without disturbing the spring rate you’ve settled on. Controlling roll and pitch matters more than outright spring rate on a car this size – get the damping wrong and the E64’s mass arrives late through a direction change and unsettles the rear axle mid-corner. Set up correctly, the 6 Series turns in with far less of the float that defines it on standard suspension, and holds its line under load rather than wallowing through it. On the convertible specifically, tighter damping control also picks up some of the work a stiffer factory shell would otherwise be doing, keeping the car composed when the road surface changes mid-corner.

About the Racing Spec coilover

XYZ Racing built the Racing Spec line for circuit and time-attack cars specifically, not as a stiffer version of a road kit. The damping curves come out of the brand’s involvement in touring car racing, including WTCC, where settings get proven under actual race conditions rather than tuned on a bench. For E64s carrying heavier upgrades – bigger brakes, wider wheels, aero – XYZ Racing also offers custom-valved shock absorbers built around the specific modifications on the car and the circuit it will run, the same approach used for the brand’s own A-class racing builds. You supply the spec sheet for your car and the track you run, and the damper gets valved around that brief rather than a generic curve. It’s a coilover built on the idea that a heavily modified track car needs damping matched to its actual setup, not just a firmer spring.

Fitment for the BMW 6 Series E64 6 Cyl (2004-2010)

This kit is built for the BM45-chassis 6 Series – the E64, six-cylinder cars built between 2004 and 2010. Check your car’s build date and chassis code against that window before ordering, since coilover fitment is specific to this generation of 6 Series.
