The E36 Compact’s short wheelbase and its carried-over, E30-style semi-trailing-arm rear axle give it a very different character to the standard E36 saloon under sideways load, and that’s exactly the layout XYZ Racing built the Pro Racing Drift Spec around. Where the multi-link "Z-axle" cars need less coaxing to hold an angle, the Compact’s rear geometry gains camber quickly through its arc of travel, and getting consistent, repeatable slip out of this shorter chassis means controlling that geometry rather than fighting it.
This kit is built for competitive drifting, not fast-road comfort. It’s the setup for a driver entering the Compact into circuit-track drift competition, where the rear end needs to load and unload predictably at big steering angles, run after run.
What this coilover does for your 1994-2000 Bmw 3 Series E36 Compact 4 CYL TI
Lower the ride height with the correct bump stroke set, and the E36 Compact’s body control through weight transfer changes noticeably: less pitch under throttle-off, a lower roll centre, and a chassis that answers steering input at the point you actually want the rear to break away rather than a beat later. The three external adjustment knobs let you separate compression and rebound circuits, so you can soften the front to help the nose tuck on initiation and firm up the rear to hold the drift angle through the middle of the corner without the axle hopping over mid-corner bumps. On a lighter-nosed 4-cylinder Compact this matters more than on the six-cylinder saloon, because there’s less weight to load the front tyres and generate that initial rotation, so the damping has to do more of the work. Circuit surfaces are rarely smooth, and this kit is set up with that in mind: expect a faint noise from the small oil-passage design under hard compression on bumpy sections, which is a function of the valving rather than a fault.
About the Pro Racing Drift Spec coilover
This is a purpose-specific drift setup, not a repurposed track coilover with a different label. The valving is tuned to stabilise the car’s body while it’s turning at high speed, so the chassis holds a clean, controllable angle instead of snapping or washing out as load transfers side to side. Three external adjustment knobs give separate control over the damping circuits, routed through a small oil-passage design tuned specifically for drift control rather than outright ride comfort. Once the ride height is set with the correct bump stroke, the improvement in drift controllability is immediate and repeatable, which is the core thing this coilover is built to deliver. Because the oil has to pass through those small passages, running over bumps at speed can produce a minor noise; XYZ Racing designed the kit around circuit-track use, where that trade-off is accepted in exchange for the control it buys.
Fitment for the Bmw 3 Series E36 Compact (1994-2000)
Built for the E36 Compact, chassis code TI, 4-cylinder cars, covering the full 1994 to 2000 production run. This is the shorter-wheelbase Compact bodyshell rather than the E36 saloon or coupe, so confirm you’re ordering against the Compact-specific chassis code before fitting.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.
Top mounts included with your kit
Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.
Front
Pillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
Hardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
Rear
AluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
