XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — BMW 5 SERIES E39 4/6 CYL excl. Wagon 1995-2003

The E39 5 Series carries its mass low but wide across a double-wishbone front axle and a multi-link rear, and on the standard dampers that mass shows up exactly where you don’t want it: diving under braking into a corner, then rolling onto the outside tyre mid-apex. On a 1,600kg-plus saloon that geometry only stays composed once spring rate and damping are matched to the loads a circuit actually puts through it.

The Racing Spec coilover is built for that job specifically – serious track and time-attack use, not fast-road comfort. It replaces the E39’s factory-soft control with a set-up that keeps the nose settled under trail-braking and the outside corner supported through direction changes, so the chassis holds its line instead of arguing with the driver mid-corner.

What this coilover does for your 1995-2003 BMW 5 Series

Fitted to a 4 or 6-cylinder E39 saloon, this kit controls the pitch and roll that come with the model’s weight before it ever reaches the tyre contact patch. Braking into a hairpin loads the front wishbones hard on a car this heavy; the Racing Spec damping resists that dive so the front tyres keep working instead of unloading. Through the multi-link rear, tightened control keeps the axle planted under power out of slow corners, which matters on the six-cylinder cars where there’s torque to put down. The result on track is a 5 Series that changes direction with less delay between input and response, and holds a consistent ride height across a full session rather than settling lower as the dampers heat up.

About the Racing Spec coilover

XYZ Racing built the Racing Spec range directly from data gathered running in WTCC competition, rather than adapting a road set-up downward. That means the valving and spring rates supplied as standard are already calibrated for repeated hard laps, not a single fast road drive. For E39 owners running genuinely aggressive builds – bigger brakes, wider track, weight already stripped out – XYZ Racing can also produce a custom-made damper for that specific car: send over the modification list and the circuit you’re running, and the shock is built around that spec rather than a generic setting. It’s the same route used for cars closer to factory racing builds than road cars, and it’s available on this kit rather than reserved for a separate tier.

Fitment for the BMW 5 Series (1995-2003)

This kit fits the E39 5 Series (chassis code BM22) built between 1995 and 2003, covering the 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder saloon range. It excludes the Touring/wagon bodystyle – confirm your car is the saloon before ordering, as the wagon’s rear geometry uses a different mounting arrangement.
