XYZ Racing Drag Racing Coilovers — BMW 7 SERIES E38 8 CYL (NOT AIR STRUT) 1995-2002

A V8 E38 carries close to two tonnes over a conventional strut front end, and every kilogram of that mass is working against you in the first half-second off the line. XYZ Racing’s Drag Racing coilover kit for the rear-wheel-drive BMW 7 Series E38 (chassis BM21-2, 1995-2002, the conventional-strut cars, not the air-suspension variant) is built around that exact problem: getting weight onto the rear tyres the instant the light goes green.

Where a circuit-focused coilover resists weight transfer through direction changes, this kit is set up to do the opposite on purpose. It lets the big saloon’s chassis squat under launch and loads the driven wheels through the traction window that separates a clean 0-400 metre run from a bogged-down one.

What this coilover does for your 1995-2002 Bmw 7 Series E38 8 CYL (NOT AIR Strut)

Fitted to a 1995-2002 E38 running one of BMW’s V8s, this coilover set changes how the car behaves in the first metres of a run rather than through a corner. The damping and spring settings are tuned to let controlled squat happen at launch, transferring load from the nose to the rear axle and putting more of the E38’s weight over the driven wheels when grip matters most. Full ride-height adjustment lets you set the front-to-rear rake that keeps the launch stance consistent run after run, and the monotube construction holds its damping characteristics as the shocks heat up over repeat passes down the strip. The result is less wheel spin off the line and a car that settles quickly enough to carry that advantage through to the top end of a 400 metre run.

About the Drag Racing coilover

XYZ Racing’s Drag Racing coilover is built specifically for 0-400 metre straight-line work, and it is set up differently depending on whether the car sends power through the front, rear or all four wheels. On a rear-wheel-drive platform like the E38, the geometry and damping curve are calibrated to shift weight onto the rear axle the moment the car launches, pressing the driven tyres into the tarmac with more compression than a static setup would give you. That extra load at the contact patch is what cuts the idle spinning of the driven wheel down to a minimum, so the power gets converted into forward motion instead of tyre smoke. The same tuning philosophy is designed to hold the car stable as speed builds toward the far end of the strip, rather than letting it get loose once the weight transfer settles. It is a coilover built around one manoeuvre, not a compromise between launch and corner-holding.

Fitment for the Bmw 7 Series E38 8 CYL (NOT AIR Strut) (1995-2002)

This kit fits the BMW 7 Series E38, chassis code BM21-2, across the 1995-2002 production run on the 8-cylinder cars fitted with conventional coil-spring struts. It is not compatible with E38s specified with factory air suspension – confirm your car has the standard strut set-up before ordering.

This is a launch-focused build for a heavy V8 saloon, not a general road or track spring rate – configure your spec below.

The coilovers are specially designed for 0~400 drag racing such as FWD, RWD or 4WD models. The setting allows vehicle to change the front and rear weight according to the transmission wheel in instant driving, and force the transmission tire having greater compression, which can reduce the idle time of wheel and improve the stability of the vehicle under high speed.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
