XYZ Racing Drift Spec Coilovers — BMW 7 SERIES E65 8 CYL 2001-2008

The E65 7 Series carries close to two tonnes on a chassis never built with a handbrake turn in mind, which is exactly why it has become a fixture of the UK’s big-body drift scene: cheap V8 power, rear-wheel drive, and a factory air suspension system that was never going to survive a season of sustained oversteer. XYZ Racing’s Drift Spec coilover replaces that airmatic setup with a threaded, height-adjustable platform built specifically for competitive drifting, not fast-road comfort.

Where a road-biased kit is tuned to soak up B-road cambers, this Drift Spec kit is built around holding the E65’s body flat as the car is thrown sideways at speed, so the rear axle stays loaded and the angle stays controllable rather than snapping. Lower the ride height correctly within the kit’s bump-stroke range and the car settles into the kind of predictable, catchable slide that makes a heavy saloon usable in competition rather than a liability.

What this coilover does for your 2001-2008 Bmw 7 Series E65 8 CYL

On a car this heavy, body control is the difference between a held drift and a snap spin, and that’s where the kit earns its keep. Independent ride-height adjustment lets you set the E65 low enough to drop the centre of gravity and sharpen initial rotation, while the damping controls how fast that two-tonne mass transfers onto the rear tyres mid-slide. Drift-tuned spring rates keep the nose from diving under trail braking into the entry, so the angle can be set earlier and held rather than lost to weight transfer through the corner. Removing the factory air suspension also takes out a known E65 failure point, replacing it with a mechanical setup that won’t drop the car onto its bump stops mid-run.

About the Drift Spec coilover

XYZ Racing built the Drift Spec line for one job: competition drifting, not general road use. The valving and spring rates are set up to keep the car’s body stable through high-speed direction changes, so the chassis holds its line as a driver initiates and corrects an angle rather than wallowing or snapping unpredictably. That stability is what lets a driver commit to a bigger, sustained slide instead of backing off mid-run. The kit is designed around a specific bump-stroke range, and getting the ride height set correctly within that range is what unlocks the sharpest drift control the setup is capable of – go too low or too high and the geometry stops working as intended. On the E65 specifically, that means swapping a factory air suspension system that was never designed for repeated lateral loading for a threaded coilover built to take it.

Fitment for the Bmw 7 Series E65 (2001-2008)

This kit is built for the E65-chassis 7 Series, 8-cylinder V8 models produced between 2001 and 2008. Chassis code BM49 covers the model range this Drift Spec coilover is designed around, so confirm your build plate matches before ordering.

This suspension is designed for Drift race especially. With its special design, it helps the racers stabilize the vehicle body while in high speed turning in order to make a perfect angle. It can also enhance drifting performance. After lowing the ride height with proper bump stroke, you will realize how we made the drift controlling to the excellent condition.
