XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Chrysler NEON 1994-2000

The first-generation Chrysler NEON arrived as a budget compact, but the CR02 chassis has spent the last two decades being rediscovered by stage-rally privateers who value its short wheelbase, light kerb weight and willingness to rotate on a loose surface. What it was never given from the factory is a damper capable of surviving a Welsh forest stage. That is the gap this XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover fills.

This is a dedicated gravel-stage damper built for a NEON running as a rally car, not a road car with longer travel bolted in. Inverted-tube construction, extended stroke and long-rate rally springs let the chassis breathe over deep ruts, compressions and yumps without bottoming the shock or unloading the inside rear mid-corner.

What this coilover does for your 1994-2000 Chrysler NEON

On a loose surface the suspension does the steering as much as the driver does, and a NEON on the wrong damper will skip across ruts and run wide on every camber change. The long-stroke inverted-tube layout keeps the contact patch loaded through deep compressions, so the front axle keeps biting when you trail-brake into a hairpin and the rear stays planted when the car lands cross-slope after a crest. Spring rates are set long and progressive rather than short and stiff, which is what allows the car to soak up high-speed bouncy sections without pitching the driver around the cabin. The result is a NEON that will commit to a line over broken ground instead of flinching off it, and a chassis that will still be straight at the end of a stage rather than punched through at the top mounts.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally is XYZ Racing’s dedicated rally-cross and stage-rally damper, and the design priorities are different from anything in the tarmac range. It uses an inverted-tube layout – the larger-diameter body sits at the top and the thinner shaft at the bottom – which puts the strongest section of the damper where the suspension takes the biggest hits from stones, sandstone, snow and silt. Stroke length is extended well beyond a road coilover so the wheel can travel through deep compressions without the damper running out of room, and the springs are deliberately long and softer-rated to absorb chassis vibration and soak up the G-loads the car takes when it lands cross-slope or attacks a high-speed bouncy section. Spring rates across the range have been set and validated by working rally teams, not chosen from a catalogue, so the baseline tune is the one a competitive crew would actually run.

Fitment for the Chrysler NEON (1994-2000)

Built for the first-generation Chrysler NEON, chassis code CR02, covering the 1994 to 2000 model years. Confirm your trim and sub-variant in the configurator before ordering – first-gen NEON went through several front-strut and rear-suspension revisions across its production run, and the correct part numbers depend on which one is under your car.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
