XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Ferrari 458 / 458 Spider (with hydraulic lift, excl.control system) (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) 2010-2015

Running a 458 on a gravel stage is not a sentence most people expect to read, but the cars that have been built for tarmac-and-gravel rally use – and the prep shops keeping mid-engined Ferraris competitive on loose surfaces – need a damper that ignores almost everything the road 458 was tuned around. The factory magnetorheological set-up assumes a billiard-smooth circuit or a polished autostrada; point a 458 at a Welsh forest stage and the electronic damping has nothing useful to say. This XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover for the FE06-C chassis replaces all of that.

It arrives with the cancellation kit for the OE electronic damping, so the car’s ECU stops looking for a signal it will never get back. What you bolt on instead is a long-stroke, long-spring, inverted-tube damper built for sandstone, snow and silt – not for trail-braking into Paddock Hill.

What this coilover does for your 2010-2015 Ferrari 458 / 458 Spider

The 458’s mid-engined balance is the asset you keep; the magnetic dampers and their narrow stroke window are what you lose. Long-travel internals give the car somewhere to go when a rear wheel drops into a rut at speed, instead of spiking the chassis upward and unloading the front. Spring rates are set low enough to let the tyre stay loaded over washboard gravel, which is where a stiff tarmac set-up beaches a 458 and ends the stage.

The inverted-tube layout puts the larger-diameter body up top, which improves bending stiffness through the strut under the lateral hammering a gravel surface delivers mid-corner. Cancelling the electronic damping removes the dashboard warning loop and hands damper authority back to the mechanical valving, where a rally co-driver can actually predict it. For Spider cars the long stroke also helps mask the small torsional concession that comes with a folding roof on rough ground.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ designed this damper specifically for rally and rallycross, where the road surface is the most aggressive in any racing discipline. The construction is inverted-tube – chosen so the same damper can handle sandstone one weekend, snow the next and silt the one after – with long stroke and long springs built to absorb chassis vibration, soak up high-speed bouncing and survive the G-force of a turn taken on a loose surface.

Spring rates are not generic catalogue numbers; XYZ states every rate on this kit has been tested by their rally team. The cancellation harness in this Ferrari-specific variant disables the OE electronic damping signal so the chassis runs purely on the mechanical coilover. It is a stripped, mechanically honest piece of hardware – no electronics, no algorithms, just stroke, oil and a tested spring rate.

Fitment for the Ferrari 458 / 458 Spider (2010-2015)

Chassis code FE06-C, covering the 458 Italia coupé and 458 Spider built between 2010 and 2015 fitted with the hydraulic front lift but excluding the original control system. The kit includes the cancellation harness for the factory electronic damping, so no separate retrofit is required to silence the OE dashboard error.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
