XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Holden COMMODORE UTE 1999-2006

The VT-VZ Commodore UTE carries a long wheelbase, a live or IRS rear depending on series, and a nose weighted by the Buick-derived V6 or the LS1/LS2 V8 sat well behind the front axle line. None of that was set up by GMH for serious circuit work – the factory damping is tuned for load-lugging compliance, and on a fast trailing-throttle entry the back end goes light long before the fronts have finished asking. The XYZ Racing Racing Spec coilover for the Holden Commodore UTE 1999-2006 is built for owners who have stopped pretending this is a workhorse and started running it at Wakefield, Winton, or a UK trackday in the rare RHD imports.

This is the top of the XYZ Racing range, developed off direct WTCC paddock data rather than catalogue maths. It is not a fast-road kit with a stiffer sticker – it is the spec the brand reaches for when the customer has already gone past sticky tyres, a bar, and a pad upgrade.

What this coilover does for your 1999-2006 Holden Commodore UTE

Front-end bite is the headline change. A Commodore UTE on standard rates rolls onto its outer front shoulder mid-corner and washes wide; the Racing Spec valving and stiffer race-derived spring rates hold the platform flat, so the front tyre stays loaded through the apex instead of giving up. Body movement under brake – the long-wheelbase pitch that eats into your braking marker – is reined in by the damper’s compression circuit, which gives you a usable extra metre on entry.

Over kerbs and concrete patches the damping has the range to absorb a sharp hit without unsettling the rear axle, which on a UTE matters more than on a saloon – there is no weight in the tray to keep the back planted. Ride height is fully adjustable on the threaded body, so you can drop the nose to recover some of the rake the factory built in for load-carrying and put the geometry back where a circuit car wants it.

About the Racing Spec coilover

Racing Spec is XYZ Racing’s circuit-developed damper, with valving and spring rates derived from direct participation in WTCC and equivalent tin-top series. The construction is monotube, threaded for height adjustment independent of preload, and supplied with rates chosen for the chassis rather than carried over from a generic platform.

The headline feature is that XYZ build to your application. If your Commodore UTE has moved past a standard suspension geometry – aggressive camber plates, a non-standard wheel and tyre package, a stripped interior, a particular circuit you keep returning to – you supply the detail and XYZ will custom-valve the shock for that car. That is unusual at this price point and is the reason Racing Spec sits above the Super Sport and Circuit Master tiers in the catalogue. Where those kits are configured from a menu, this one is configured from a conversation.

Fitment for the Holden Commodore UTE (1999-2006)

Confirmed fit for the Holden Commodore UTE chassis code UTE across the 1999 to 2006 production span, covering the VT-Series II, VU, VY and VZ generations. Front and rear damper specifications are matched to the UTE body, not shared with the equivalent sedan or wagon platform.
