XYZ Racing Street Advanced Coilovers — Honda PRELUDE BA8/9 BB1/2/3/4 1991-1996

The fourth-generation Prelude arrived with double-wishbones at all four corners, optional four-wheel steering on the Si 4WS, and a kerb weight that flatters a well-sorted damper. Three decades on, the factory struts are the weak link – sagging springs, blown shocks, and a ride height that no longer matches what the chassis was designed to do. The XYZ Racing Street Advanced coilover is built to put a BA8, BA9, BB1, BB2, BB3 or BB4 Prelude back on its toes without turning it into a track-only car.

This is the sweet-spot kit in the XYZ range for owners who still drive their Prelude in the real world. It keeps the H22 and H23-era chassis composed on a B-road, holds its line through a roundabout taken with intent, and gives you the height and damping headroom to take it to a Sunday sprint without swapping anything underneath.

What this coilover does for your 1991-1996 Honda Prelude

Damping is adjustable across 720 settings from a single knob per corner, so you can run it soft enough to absorb a UK back-road and firm enough to keep the front end honest when you lean on the four-wheel-steer rear. Ride height is set independently of spring preload, which matters on a Prelude – you can drop the nose to clean up the arch gap without pre-loading the spring and ruining the small-bump compliance. Body roll drops noticeably, turn-in sharpens, and the slightly nose-heavy feel of the longitudinally-mounted four-cylinder gets reined in under trail braking. The car ends up feeling closer to what Honda’s chassis engineers intended before twenty-plus years of tired rubber and rusty top mounts got in the way.

About the Street Advanced coilover

Street Advanced is XYZ’s most popular series, refined over years of development by the brand’s in-house team and validated in international competition before being released for road use. It is built specifically for fast-road driving with the option to step up to occasional track days, which is why the 720-way damping range sits where it does – wide enough to cover both jobs from one set of hardware. Construction follows the rest of the XYZ catalogue: pillowball top mounts, hardened-steel shock bodies, and pre-set spring rates chosen to suit the chassis rather than a universal "one rate fits all" approach. It is the kit XYZ themselves point drivers toward when the brief is daily usability with genuine handling improvement, rather than a stripped-out circuit setup.

Fitment for the Honda Prelude (1991-1996)

This kit fits the fourth-generation Prelude under chassis codes BA8, BA9, BB1, BB2, BB3 and BB4, covering the full 1991-1996 production run including 2.0i, 2.2 VTEC, 2.3i and the Si 4WS variants. Internal XYZ reference for this fitment is HN45. Confirm your specific trim against the configurator before ordering.
