XYZ Racing Top Sport Coilovers — Kia FORTE 2009-2017

The TD-platform Kia Forte rolls off the line as a tidy, light front-driver with a MacPherson strut front and a torsion-beam rear that the factory tuned firmly for ride compliance rather than apex commitment. Bolt on a set of summer rubber and chase a B-road, and the limitations become obvious quickly: nose-led roll, a rear axle that hops over mid-corner ripples, and brake dive that eats your steering authority before turn-in.

The XYZ Racing Top Sport coilover for the Kia Forte 2009-2017 is built for the owner who wants the Forte to genuinely respond – occasional track-day duty on the weekend, civilised commute on the Monday. Spring rates and damping are stepped up from a street tune so the chassis settles instead of pogo-ing, without going so far that the torsion-beam rear becomes a wheelbarrow on rough tarmac.

What this coilover does for your 2009-2017 Kia Forte

Drop the Forte onto these and the first thing you feel is the front end loading cleanly under braking instead of nose-diving onto the bump-stops. Mid-corner, the body stays flatter, the outside tyre is asked to do its job, and you stop scrubbing speed through understeer the chassis was never asked to fight from the factory. The Top Sport setting runs roughly 30 to 50 percent more damping force and around 2kg/mm more spring rate than a typical street coilover, which is the difference between absorbing a kerb and crashing over it. Height is adjustable, so you can drop the Forte for stance without grenading the geometry, then raise it for speed bumps and steep driveway approaches. On the motorway the ride is firmer than stock, but the rebound control means it stops moving when the road does, instead of floating for a second after.

About the Top Sport coilover

The Top Sport spec sits in the middle of the XYZ Racing range – built off the company’s racing-derived damper architecture and then dialled back to where occasional track use and daily driving overlap. Spring rates run roughly 2kg/mm above a comparable street setting, and damping is stepped up by 30 to 50 percent, which is what lets the coilover absorb the jolt across a big bump rather than transmitting it straight into the cabin. The damping settings come directly from XYZ Racing’s circuit programme, then re-valved for cars that still need to live with broken UK B-road tarmac. Construction is the same monotube-derived platform XYZ Racing uses across the catalogue: ride-height adjustable, with a damper body that stays cool through repeated hard stops because the gas and oil chambers are properly separated. The result is a chassis that suppresses body shock, holds tyre contact through ripples mid-corner, and increases traction when you ask for it.
