XYZ Racing Street Advanced Coilovers — Mazda RX7 FC3S 1985-1991

The FC3S sits in an awkward spot for suspension work in 2026. The chassis was Mazda’s first serious attempt at a sorted RX-7 – longer wheelbase than the SA22, independent rear, and a kerb weight that flatters a modest power figure – but four decades of tired OE dampers, perished bushes and sagging springs have left most surviving cars riding on geometry their designers would not recognise. Fresh coilovers are not a tuning exercise on an FC; they are a baseline reset.

XYZ Racing’s coilover range for the 1985-1991 RX-7 FC3S addresses that baseline directly. Pillow-ball top mounts restore the front camber the rubber OE mounts have long since lost, height adjustment lets owners pull the nose down without resorting to spring chops, and damping that actually controls a 13B-powered car gives the chassis back the throttle-adjustable balance it was built around.

What this coilover does for your 1985-1991 Mazda RX7 FC3S

The FC’s independent rear suspension was a leap forward for the platform, but it relies on bushes and damping that are now well past their service life. A properly specified coilover firms up turn-in, gives the rear axle the body control it needs to put a rotary’s torque down cleanly off slow corners, and removes the floaty mid-corner pitch that tired OE struts develop. Ride-height adjustment lets owners drop the centre of gravity without binding the rear toe arms, and corner-weight adjustment via the threaded perches lets a stripped track car or a fully-trimmed street FC be set up for its actual weight rather than the brochure figure. Spring rates step up from the standard 13B-rotor figures, but the damping is matched – so the car feels tied down rather than crashy on UK B-roads.

About the XYZ Racing FC3S coilover

The kit is a full-replacement, 32-way adjustable damper assembly built around a monotube body. Front struts are MacPherson-type with adjustable pillow-ball upper mounts; rear units retain the FC’s lower-mount strut layout with separate spring and damper to clear the rear hub geometry. Spring rates are selected for the FC’s nose-light, near-50/50 weight balance rather than a generic application, and the damper valving is set to match. Height is adjusted at the lower mount rather than by collapsing spring preload, which preserves usable stroke – critical on a chassis with as much wheel travel as the FC’s rear end. All hardware is supplied for a direct bolt-on fit to the original mounting points; no chassis modification is required.

Fitment for the Mazda RX7 FC3S (1985-1991)

This kit fits the FC3S chassis RX-7 across the full 1985-1991 production run, covering Series 4 and Series 5 cars including naturally aspirated and Turbo II variants. Mounting points are common across the range; the kit suits convertible and coupe bodies.
