XYZ Racing Circuit Master Coilovers — Mitsubishi STARION welding 1982-1990

The Starion’s turbocharged straight-six power delivery through a live rear axle rewards a suspension setup that keeps the chassis flat and predictable when the boost comes in mid-corner. XYZ Racing’s Circuit Master coilover is built for exactly this kind of sustained circuit lap-time work, where the car needs to hold its line lap after the tenth lap, not just the first.

For an MT34-chassis Starion built between 1982 and 1990, that means a damper that can be tuned to suit the car’s age, its tyre choice, and how it’s actually being used on track, rather than a single compromise setting.

What this coilover does for your 1982-1990 Mitsubishi Starion

With 9,720 possible damping combinations available through the Circuit Master’s three external adjustment knobs, you can set compression and rebound independently to match the Starion’s weight transfer under braking and its tendency to shift load onto the outside rear wheel through fast corners. That range lets you firm up the front end to sharpen turn-in on a car whose chassis design predates modern geometry, while keeping enough compliance at the rear to put power down cleanly off a slow corner. The monotube-style internals hold their damping characteristics consistently across a full track session, so the car’s behaviour on lap one and lap fifteen stays close enough that you’re not re-learning the braking points as the session goes on. On a car this old, being able to fine-tune ride height alongside damping also means correcting decades of variance in factory ride height and corner weights.

About the Circuit Master coilover

The Circuit Master sits at the top of XYZ Racing’s range and is built specifically around circuit and competitive use, including Racing Spec and Tarmac Rally applications, rather than general road-going comfort. It has been run and developed by XYZ’s own racing teams across international circuits, with the adjustment range aimed at giving teams and privateers enough scope to find a working setup for a given track rather than accepting a fixed compromise. The three-knob layout controls damping through a small-passage oil circuit; on rough sections of a circuit surface this can produce a faint noise as oil moves through the restricted passage, which is a normal characteristic of this damper design rather than a fault. The unit is built with track surfaces in mind, so occasional bump noise on kerbs or transitions isn’t something to be concerned about. For a platform like the Starion, where original suspension components are ageing and increasingly scarce, a coilover built around circuit durability rather than road comfort is the more relevant spec.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.
