XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Nissan SKYLINE R33 GTST 1995-1998

The R33 GTST’s rear-wheel drive layout and relatively long wheelbase make it a credible gravel stage platform – but the stock suspension was never designed to absorb the kind of punishment that comes from attacking loose, high-speed stages. A dedicated gravel setup changes the conversation entirely. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover for the Nissan Skyline R33 GTST brings the long-stroke travel and inverted tube construction the platform needs to survive – and perform – on surfaces that would destroy standard road kit in a single stage.

Without adequate travel, the R33’s multi-link rear will bottom out repeatedly on the kind of rutted, corrugated gravel that characterises UK forest stages or continental rallycross circuits. The short spring rates and limited bump-stop clearance in the factory setup were calibrated for tarmac – on loose, they offer almost no margin before the chassis is fighting itself.

What this coilover does for your 1995-1998 Nissan SKYLINE R33 GTST

The inverted tube construction reduces unsprung mass compared to a conventional strut arrangement, and on the R33’s front MacPherson layout that matters when the wheel is being asked to react quickly to variable loose-surface grip. Extended stroke travel allows the suspension to absorb high-speed compressions – the kind that come from cresting a brow or landing off a jump – without the chassis slamming onto the bump stops and disrupting steering feel. The long spring design suits the continuous travel demands of gravel competition specifically, where the suspension cycle is relentless rather than occasional. Spring rates across the range have been validated under rally racing conditions covering sandstone, snow, and silt – not merely simulated on a road course.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally series is built specifically for rally racing and rallycross, where road conditions are more aggressive than almost any other motorsport discipline. The centrepiece is an inverted tube damper, which positions the larger-diameter outer tube at the top of the stroke to improve rigidity and resist the lateral loads that gravel stages apply constantly to the damper body. Long-travel springs are matched to the damper to handle continuous chassis vibration and extreme G-forces generated at speed through loose-surface corners – a fundamentally different brief to a circuit coilover or fast-road kit. Spring rate selection across the range has been developed and tested by rally racing teams, ensuring each setting reflects an actual surface type rather than a theoretical compromise. The result is a damper package that can accommodate sandstone, snow, and silt without requiring a complete rebuild between events.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
