XYZ Racing Drift Spec Coilovers — Mercedes-Benz ML/GLE CLASS W166 4WD 2011-2019

The W166 ML/GLE’s height and its near-two-and-a-half-tonne kerb weight are the two things working against a controlled drift angle – a tall, heavy 4WD SUV wants to roll and understeer long before it wants to rotate. XYZ Racing’s Drift Spec coilover exists to counter both, dropping the centre of gravity and giving the chassis a defined, repeatable point where the rear end lets go.

Built for competitive drifting rather than circuit lap times, this kit is about managing body roll through the transition and holding an angle once you’re in it, not chasing outright lateral grip. On a platform this size, that starts with ride height and bump stroke, both of which this coilover is set up to manage specifically for the W166’s 4WD structure.

What this coilover does for your 2011-2019 Mercedes Benz ML/GLE CLASS W166 4WD

Lowering the ML/GLE onto this coilover pulls weight down and forward in the chassis, cutting the pendulum effect a factory-height SUV suffers through weight transfer at the point of initiation. That translates into a car that stops rolling onto its outside dampers mid-slide and instead holds a settled, predictable stance through the transition. Because the kit is tuned around a specific bump stroke rather than a generic drop, you get usable travel left even at a lowered ride height – the difference between a car that bottoms out the moment you apply opposite lock and one that stays composed. On the 4WD system’s rear-biased torque split, that composure is what actually lets you hold an angle instead of snapping into oversteer you can’t catch. This is body-control damping first: it’s there to manage the mass of a full-size SUV through a slide, not to soften a commute.

About the Drift Spec coilover

XYZ Racing’s Drift Spec range is built around one job: stabilising the body of the car through high-speed direction changes so the driver can hold a clean, consistent angle rather than fighting the chassis for it. The valving and spring rates are set up specifically around drift loading – repeated, sustained lateral transfer rather than single-corner grip events – which is a different brief to a track-focused Circuit Master or a fast-road Super Sport kit. Ride height reduction is calculated alongside bump stroke, not as an afterthought, so dropping the car doesn’t cost you the travel you need mid-slide. The result, on a heavy platform like the W166, is a kit that keeps the body settled enough that the driver’s inputs – steering, throttle, opposite lock – actually translate into the angle being asked for, rather than getting absorbed by chassis movement first.

Fitment for the Mercedes Benz ML/GLE CLASS W166 4WD (2011-2019)

This kit is specced for the W166-generation Mercedes Benz ML/GLE Class, chassis code ME62, covering the 2011 to 2019 model years across the 4WD line-up. Confirm your build year falls inside that window before ordering, as Mercedes revised the W166 through its production run.

What buyers also search for

  • Mercedes Benz ML/GLE W166 drift build suspension for a full-size SUV.
  • W166 4WD coilover set-up for controlled, rear-biased oversteer.
  • ML/GLE Drift Spec ride height and bump stroke for competitive drifting.
  • Mercedes Benz ML/GLE W166 coilover kit that holds body control through sustained slides.

If competitive drifting is the goal for a car this size, ride height and bump stroke need to be matched to how the W166’s mass moves – configure your Drift Spec below.

This suspension is designed for Drift race especially. With its special design, it helps the racers stabilize the vehicle body while in high speed turning in order to make a perfect angle. It can also enhance drifting performance. After lowing the ride height with proper bump stroke, you will realize how we made the drift controlling to the excellent condition.
