XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Mitsubishi STARION welding 1982-1990

The Starion’s turbocharged straight-six sits up front over a chassis that was never meant to see a rally stage, but MT34 owners running gravel and stage events know the factory geometry runs out of travel long before the surface does. XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally coilovers replace that shortfall with a damper built specifically for loose-surface work, where the road disappears under the car in fractions of a second.

This is not a fast-road or circuit spec dressed up for a different job. It is a rally damper for a rally car, built for the compressions, crests and off-camber chaos that gravel stages throw at a chassis lap after lap of a different kind – the kind measured in stage miles, not sector times.

What this coilover does for your 1982-1990 Mitsubishi Starion Welding

Long stroke travel is the headline change: where the standard Starion damper tops and bottoms out on a rutted stage, this unit keeps working, absorbing chassis vibration and high-speed compressions without transmitting the hit straight into the MT34’s structure. The inverted tube layout keeps the working seal higher up and better protected from the sand, silt and stone thrown up by a gravel surface – a real consideration on a platform this age, where sourcing replacement internals isn’t a same-day job. The long spring rate pairing lets the axle follow the terrain instead of skipping across it, which on a nose-heavy turbo coupe like the Starion translates directly into traction out of loose-surface corners. Under hard cornering loads the setup is built to bear the extreme G-force spikes gravel driving generates without losing consistency from one stage to the next.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing developed this damper specifically for rally and rallycross use, where road surface variability is more extreme than in any other motorsport discipline – sandstone one stage, snow or silt the next, sometimes within the same event. The inverted tube design was chosen to cope with that shifting surface condition rather than being tuned around a single tarmac or track baseline. Long stroke travel and a correspondingly long spring are the mechanical answer to chassis vibration and the aggressive bounce that comes off a rough, high-speed gravel road, keeping the damper working through compressions that would overwhelm a shorter-travel unit. Every spring rate offered in this range has been set and verified by an active rally racing team rather than derived on a bench alone, so the rates reflect what actually holds up across a stage rather than a theoretical ideal.

Fitment for the Mitsubishi Starion Welding (1982-1990)

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
