XYZ Racing Pro Racing Drift Spec Coilovers — BMW 02 SERIES φ45 welding 1966-1977

The 02 Series’ short wheelbase and skinny front track are exactly what make it such a willing drift platform, but that same chassis geometry punishes soft, worn factory struts the moment you load it up sideways. Weight transfer happens fast on a car this light, and body roll through a committed angle change eats the margin you need to hold a line. The Pro Racing Drift Spec coilover replaces that vague, wallowing front end with a setup built specifically to keep the body stable while you’re deep into opposite lock.

This is a welded φ45-strut application for the 1966-1977 02 Series, so it’s built around the car’s original suspension geometry rather than adapted from a bolt-in kit for a later chassis. That matters on a car this old – the mounting points and strut architecture are period-correct, not compromised.

What this coilover brings to your 1966-1977 Bmw 02 Series Φ45 Welding

Stabilising body movement during high-speed direction changes is the whole point of this kit, and on a car as light as the 02 Series that translates directly into a more predictable transition into and out of an angle. Once you’ve dropped the ride height and set bump stroke correctly, the difference in how the chassis holds its line mid-drift is immediately obvious – less pitch, less unwanted rotation, more of the car doing what the wheel and throttle are asking. The 3-knob damping adjustment lets you tune compression and rebound independently front to rear, which on a welded-strut 02 Series means you can bias the setup toward front grip for initiation or rear stability for the sustained angle, depending on how the car’s being driven. Ride height drops as part of the setup process, lowering the centre of gravity and tightening the roll response that a stock 1970s strut simply wasn’t built to control.

About the Pro Racing Drift Spec coilover

XYZ Racing built this coilover specifically for drift competition rather than adapting a road or circuit spec kit for sideways use. The internals route damping oil through a small-passage design at each of the three adjustment knobs, which is what gives the driver fine control over compression and rebound independently – useful when you’re trying to hold a specific angle rather than simply keep the car planted in a straight line. One side effect of that small-passage routing is some audible noise when the strut compresses hard over track kerbs or bumps; XYZ Racing notes this is a normal characteristic of the design, not a fault, and it’s a known trait of this type across the range. The kit is intended for circuit and drift-track use, where repeated hard compression cycles are the norm rather than the exception, and the construction is set up to take that abuse without the damping characteristics drifting session to session.

Fitment for the Bmw 02 Series Φ45 Welding (1966-1977)

This kit is built for the φ45 welded-strut version of the Bmw 02 Series across the full 1966-1977 production run, chassis code BM81. Because it’s a welding-type application, confirm your car’s original strut diameter matches φ45 before ordering – this is not a universal bolt-in for later or non-welded 02 Series variants.

Built around the 02 Series’ original φ45 strut geometry and set up for the demands of competitive drifting – configure yours below.

This suspension is especially designed for Drift racing purpose. With its special design, it helps the racers stabilize the vehicle body while in high speed turning in order to make a perfect angle. It can also enhance drifting performance. After lowering the ride height with proper bump stroke, you will realize how we made the drift controlling to the excellent condition.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.
