The E39 M5 carries 1,720kg over a long wheelbase, and on a circuit that mass shows up the moment you ask the front axle to change direction under load. The standard car was tuned for autobahn composure, not for hot laps at Cadwell or Donington – the springs are soft, the dampers are valved for ride, and after three flying laps the front tyres are cooked. The Circuit Master coilover is the answer for owners who have decided their S62-engined saloon is going to spend its weekends on track.
This is XYZ Racing’s competition-grade damper, sitting alongside the Drift Spec and Tarmac Rally in their racing line-up. For an E39 M5 used for sustained lap-time work, the brief is clear: tie the body down, hold geometry through long, loaded corners, and stop the rear axle from squatting out of slow hairpins.
What this coilover does for your 1998-2003 Bmw 5 Series E39 M5
Drop the M5 onto a set of Circuit Masters and the first thing the chassis stops doing is heaving. Body roll under turn-in tightens up, the nose follows the front wheels instead of leaning on the outside tyre, and the rear stays planted as the V8 picks up the throttle out of slow corners. With 9,720 individual adjustment combinations available across the three knobs, you can run a softer compression setting for sighting laps and stiffen everything for qualifying without touching ride height. Brake stability into a fast third-gear corner improves dramatically, because the front dampers actually control the weight transfer rather than just absorbing it. For an owner running semi-slicks and 400bhp of naturally aspirated V8, that is the difference between a fast lap and a tidy lap.
About the Circuit Master coilover
The Circuit Master is XYZ Racing’s circuit-specific damper, developed and tested by XYZ race teams on international tracks. It uses a three-knob adjustment design – separate controls for high-speed compression, low-speed compression and rebound – giving 9,720 distinct combinations in total. That granularity is the point: track conditions, tyre choice and driver preference all want different damper settings, and a coilover with a single adjuster forces compromises. The small-orifice valving inside the body is tuned for the smooth surfaces of a circuit, which is why XYZ are upfront that the damper can produce a faint oil-passage noise over sharp road bumps. On a track, where the surface is flat and the loadings are sustained rather than impact-driven, that valving is exactly what you want.
Fitment for the Bmw 5 Series (1998-2003)
This kit is specified for the E39 M5 produced between 1998 and 2003 – the S62-powered, six-speed manual variant with the wider track and M-specific suspension geometry. Standard E39 540i and 530i fitments are different parts; this listing is the M5-only set.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.
