The first-generation Ford Probe is a curious chassis to be running on a circuit in 2026 – a front-drive Mazda GD-platform coupe with a long bonnet, a soft factory ride, and a weight balance that wants to push wide the moment you load the outside front tyre. That is exactly the behaviour the XYZ Racing Circuit Master coilover is built to rewrite. This is the top-tier track damper in the XYZ range, aimed at owners who are using their Probe for sustained circuit lap-time work rather than the school run.
What you get is a 3-knob, separately adjustable damper with 9720 distinct settings across compression, rebound and the low-speed circuit, sitting on a platform that XYZ describe as their best design – the same hardware that underpins their Racing Spec, Drift Spec and Tarmac Rally variants.
What this coilover does for your 1989-1992 Ford Probe
On a Probe, the meaningful gains are at the front axle. Dropping ride height and running a stiffer, properly damped platform pulls the centre of gravity down and stops the nose diving into Druids or Paddock Hill – which is where a stock Probe runs out of front grip and starts understeering on the bump-stops. The 9720-step adjustment range means you can run a softer low-speed setting for kerbs and bumpy British circuits, then wind in high-speed compression for fast direction changes through esses. Owners chasing a flatter cornering attitude will feel turn-in sharpen immediately, and the rear axle – normally a passive twist-beam follower – starts behaving more predictably under trail-braking once the front stops collapsing.
About the Circuit Master coilover
The Circuit Master is XYZ’s flagship circuit damper and shares its core architecture with their Racing Spec, Drift Spec and Tarmac Rally builds. The three external adjustment knobs split compression, rebound and the low-speed circuit, giving 9720 individual valving combinations – enough to retune the car between sessions as track temperature and tyre wear change. The damper has been tested by XYZ race teams on international circuits over a long development cycle, and the brief is unambiguous: it is built for tarmac circuit use, not road comfort. A small-oil-passage design on the low-speed adjuster gives the precision needed for circuit valving, with a side effect that high-amplitude bump inputs can produce a faint oil noise as fluid moves through the restricted passage. On a circuit surface that is a non-issue; XYZ are upfront that this is normal behaviour for the design.
Fitment for the Ford Probe (1989-1992)
This kit is fitted to the first-generation Ford Probe, chassis code FO16, covering the 1989 to 1992 model years. Confirm your build date and chassis stamp before ordering, particularly on imported US-market cars where production overlap with the second-generation Probe is common.

A first-gen Probe set up properly is a rare sight on a UK circuit – configure your Circuit Master spec below and build the car the chassis always deserved.
Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.
Top mounts included with your kit
Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.
Pillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
Hardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
AluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
