The NA Miata’s chassis was always the point – 940kg, near-perfect weight distribution, and a willingness to rotate that made it the default answer to "what should I learn car control in?" Three decades on, the soft factory springs and tired OE dampers are the single biggest thing standing between an NA and what its chassis can actually do.
XYZ Racing’s Pro Rally coilover is built for owners who’ve stopped pretending an NA Miata is a road car and started entering it in stage events, hillclimbs, and gravel sprints. It’s a loose-surface weapon first, with the travel and damper range to survive sustained abuse on broken tarmac.
What this coilover does for your 1989-1998 Mazda MX-5 Miata / Roadster
Out of the box, the NA leans hard mid-corner and runs out of bump travel the moment a rear wheel finds a kerb. The Pro Rally fixes both at once. You get the longer stroke to soak up rally-stage compressions without smacking the bumpstops, and damping firm enough to control the body roll that the soft factory bars allow. On stage, that translates to a front end that bites on turn-in instead of washing wide, and a rear that stays planted through compressions where an OE-sprung NA would skip sideways. Ride height is fully adjustable so you can run it tall for gravel clearance or drop it for tarmac stages without swapping springs.
About the Pro Rally coilover
The Pro Rally is XYZ Racing’s stage-rally specification, sitting in the same lineup as the Tarmac Rally and Gravel Rally variants but tuned specifically for mixed-surface use. Construction is monotube with a separate reservoir mounting on the longer-stroke applications, with rally-rated seals to handle the dust and water ingress that ends most non-purpose-built dampers inside a season. Spring rates are softer than the Circuit Master road-and-track spec, on purpose – a rally car needs compliance over compression, not flat cornering. Damping is independently adjustable for compression and rebound on the top-spec configuration, giving you the latitude to set the car up for a damp forest stage on Saturday and a dry tarmac sprint on Sunday.
