XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Nissan ALTIMA U13 4WD 1993-1997

For gravel-stage rally work in a U13-generation Nissan Altima 4WD, the standard suspension runs out of travel and composure long before the stage does. Loose surfaces throw compressions at the chassis that a road-biased damper simply cannot absorb cleanly – washboard ruts, sudden crests, sand and silt that change grip mid-corner. XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally coilover is built around that specific brief, not adapted from a tarmac product.

Where a Top Sport or Super Sport coilover is tuned around consistent, smooth asphalt, the Gravel Rally kit is tuned around inconsistency: the driver never gets the same surface twice through a stage. On the 4WD Altima’s chassis, where drive is split across both axles and weight transfer happens under power as much as under braking, that unpredictability is exactly what this damper is built to soak up rather than fight.

What this coilover does for your 1993-1997 Nissan Altima

The long stroke and long free-length spring at the heart of this kit let the Altima’s suspension travel further before it tops out or bottoms out, which matters when a gravel crest launches the car and the landing arrives with no warning. That extra travel keeps the tyres tracking the surface instead of skipping across it, which on a 4WD platform means the front and rear axles stay working together rather than one end losing traction mid-corner. The inverted tube damper construction is there to cope with sandstone, snow and silt getting into the mechanism without degrading damping consistency stage after stage – a real concern on a car built in the early-to-mid 1990s, where OE suspension components were never designed for loose-surface abuse. Owners running the U13 Altima in rally or rallycross will feel the difference most under heavy compression: less crashing through the bump stops, more control when the chassis is loaded hard through a fast gravel bend.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing developed this damper specifically for rally and rallycross, where road surfaces range from sandstone to snow to silt within a single event and the shock absorber becomes the single most stressed component on the car. The inverted tube design was chosen to hold up against that variety of debris and contamination rather than the clean asphalt a track-day damper is built around. Long stroke and long spring combine to absorb chassis vibration from high-speed bouncy roads and to bear the extreme cornering loads a gravel stage generates, without the harsh spikes a shorter-travel setup would transmit into the chassis. Every spring rate offered in this range has been validated by an active rally racing team rather than set on a bench, so the rates reflect what actually holds up when a car is landing off crests and loading hard through loose corners for an entire stage.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
