XYZ Racing Top Sport Coilovers — Subaru OUTBACK BS 4WD 2014-2019

The Outback BS’s raised ride height and long-travel factory suspension were tuned for gravel roads and load carrying, not quick direction changes, which is why the symmetrical AWD wagon rolls and pitches more than its Legacy sibling the moment you push past a fast B-road pace. XYZ Racing’s Top Sport coilover kit drops that centre of gravity and firms up the damping curve without turning the car into something you can’t live with every day.

Built for occasional track day outings alongside daily use, the Top Sport spec increases damping by 30-50% (or lifts spring rate by around 2kg/mm) over XYZ’s street-oriented settings, giving the Subaru Outback the body control it needs when you start asking more of it – while keeping the ride manageable on the commute home.

What this coilover does for your 2014-2019 Subaru Outback BS

Fitted to a 2014-2019 Outback BS, this kit reins in the wagon’s factory-soft roll rate, so the extra ride height doesn’t translate into a wallowy front end under quick direction changes. The firmer damping curve suppresses shock body movement over compressions and mid-corner bumps, keeping the tyre’s contact patch loaded rather than skipping – useful given the Outback’s factory ride height already asks more of the dampers to control weight transfer than a standard Legacy would. Height-adjustable coilovers let you wind the stance down from the factory’s off-road-biased setting to something closer to a road-focused ride, sharpening turn-in without giving up the ground clearance a UK B-road with a poor surface demands. The result is an Outback that resists the nose-dive and squat that comes with AWD launches and hard braking, and holds its line through a fast direction change instead of leaning into it.

About the Top Sport coilover

XYZ Racing built the Top Sport line around a straightforward premise: take the brand’s racing know-how and re-tune it for drivers who want one set of dampers to cover a track day and the drive home. Spring rates step up by around 2kg/mm over XYZ’s street settings, or damping force rises by 30-50% depending on the axle, enough to control body movement over kerbs, compressions and mid-corner bumps without transmitting every ripple in the road surface straight into the cabin. That extra control matters most when the tyre unloads over an uneven surface – the Top Sport’s damping is calibrated to catch the wheel on the way back down and keep the contact patch working, which is where the meaningful traction gain comes from rather than from a bigger contact patch alone. Height and, depending on axle, damping are adjustable, so the same kit that handles a track-day session can be wound back for a comfortable daily commute. It’s the setup XYZ recommends when a customer wants genuinely aggressive driving manners without committing to a full track-only spring rate.

Fitment for the Subaru Outback BS (2014-2019)

This kit is built for the Subaru Outback BS, chassis code SU23, across the full 2014-2019 production run, and covers the 4WD drivetrain the Outback shipped with throughout that generation. If your BS falls inside those years, the kit is matched to the standard AWD running gear – no separate 2WD variant to worry about.
