XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Mitsubishi ECLIPSE 2006-2012

The fourth-generation Mitsubishi Eclipse (2006-2012) runs a front-wheel-drive layout across both the 2.4-litre four-cylinder and 3.8-litre V6 variants – which means on loose surfaces, the front wheels are simultaneously steering, absorbing impacts, and putting power down. That triple demand makes front suspension travel and compliance far more critical than on a comparable rear-drive platform, and it’s exactly why a rally-specific coilover is a different animal to a standard competition kit.

The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover addresses this directly. Designed for competition use on gravel stages, snow, and silt, the inverted-tube construction and long-travel spring configuration are built to keep the tyres working consistently across terrain that would destroy road-car suspension geometry within a single stage.

What this coilover does for your 2006-2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse

On a gravel stage, the suspension isn’t managing ride quality – it’s managing contact. The MT16 Eclipse’s MacPherson strut front end works harder than most platforms under competition conditions because the driven and steered axle are one and the same. The Gravel Rally’s long-stroke damper allows significant wheel travel over crests and into compressions without bottoming out, keeping the front axle from losing purchase at speed. The inverted tube design reduces flex in the shock body during the extreme lateral G-forces generated through fast rally corners – forces that would compromise the tracking of a conventional upright damper under sustained assault. Spring rates are validated in competition, not extrapolated from road-car development data.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

Rally cross produces the most aggressive surface conditions in motorsport – compacted sandstone, loose gravel, snow, and silt can all appear within the same competitive run, each demanding different suspension compliance and travel. XYZ Racing developed the Gravel Rally around an inverted tube design specifically to meet those varying conditions: positioning the larger damper body at the top of the assembly lowers unsprung weight and protects the most structurally loaded part of the shock from terrain impact. Long springs and extended piston stroke are engineered to absorb chassis vibration and aggressive high-speed inputs from fast, bouncy road surfaces, while bearing the extreme lateral G-force loading generated in stage cornering. All spring rate settings within the range were validated under actual rally competition conditions by XYZ Racing’s own racing team – not modelled from a road-car test rig.

Fitment for the Mitsubishi Eclipse (2006-2012)

These units are built for the MT16-chassis Mitsubishi Eclipse, covering the full fourth-generation production run from 2006 through to 2012. Fitment is based on standard production specifications for this chassis code and year range.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
